Let Me Be Frank

Supervised by: Dion Tuckwell

This is the design identity created for a hypothetical exhibition for contemporary Australian artist Dale Frank. The conceptual-based system is built around an idea of Frank’s; that viewing a single painting, or even a collection, cannot be enough for someone to understand the breadth and complexity of his practice. My identity reflects this idea, through the use of broken type and scattered letterforms, only legible through the use of layering. I explored the relationship between legibility and communication for this project, in order to create a memorable design system that successfully represented Frank’s artistry.

I wanted the exhibition to have a tactile element demonstrated through the tissue paper printed elements. The minimal monochromatic colour palette and the bold san serif typeface allowed the conceptual nature of the exhibition to stand out.
