Limestone House
Supervised by: Tal Levin
This publication was inspired by the creation and renovation of Limestone House by Winwood McKenzie, winners of the Victoria Architectural Award’s 2021. This publication was more conceptually driven, focusing on the creation of the building itself and celebrating the history and traditions already present.
The architect’s intention to create “an approach that makes the most complex of tasks seem effortless, and which finds poetry in even the most pragmatic of considerations”, informed the direction of my publication by ensuring each component is in its most simple form. The beauty of the publication’s design is determined through thoughtfulness in each aspect of the poetry, layout, construction and materials.
In order to find beauty in the simplest of creations, the content within the publication reflected this, as characteristically poetry is considered one of the most beautiful forms of writing. It elicits emotion through rhythm, rhyme, imagery, symbolism and structure, unlike any other style of writing, reminiscent of the residence’s creation itself. Each theme referenced within the publication, particularly those of light, memory, home, texture, family and space, are key attributes of the residence, rather than unnecessary extravagance or adornments.
